Emilie
Conrad, founder and director of Continuum
Movement is a visionary whose revolutionary work continues to inspire
an international audience of therapists and movement educators.
Emilie
was born and raised in New York City where she studied Ballet and Afro-Haitian
dance. Her interest in Afro-Haitian dance eventually led her to Haiti.
Her experiences there inspired the discovery of the essential, primary
movements common to all life forms that lie beneath our cultural awareness.
She recognizes the fluid system of our bodies as an expression of an ongoing
rapport of organism /environment, communicating its inherent bio-intelligence
through movements that spiral, arc, curve and undulate.
From 1974 to 1979 Emilie was the movement specialist in a research study
led by Dr. Valerie Hunt at UCLA. This groundbreaking study demonstrated
that enhancing fluid primary movements is essential to our ability to
innovate. The study brought new insights to our understanding of the healing
of disease, paralysis and the aging process.
In 1974, Emilie developed a pioneering protocol for spinal cord injuries.
Her understanding of how our bodies thrive, led her in 1981 to introduce
the Jungle Gym Workout. Emiie defines strength as the ability to adapt
to any given circumstance with a wide range of respones. Emilie is an
honored keynote speaker, teaching workshops, classes and the Quantum
Leaps professional trainings in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Emilie is on the faculty of Omega, Esalen and Kripalu Institutes.
