What's On My Mind These Days... Hello to All, I'd like everybody to know PBS has just released a NOVA DVD, "What Darwin Never Knew". The reason for the recommendation is that the material is not only fascinating but it also confirms the entire Continuum point of view from the New Science perspective. I was pleased to learn their theory of the emergence of our bodies having been shaped by the sea and the implications of the role wave motion plays in DNA evolution. I think you will all be inspired and excited by the information. It is increasingly clear with all this furor around health care that self care rises to the top of the list. On May 13 Stephen Porges presents Rhythms of the body expressed in patterns of heart rate and breathing provide measurable portals to the neural mechanisms modulating our physical and mental health. Concepts of play, social behavior, empathy, trust, love, and sharing are dependent on neural processes that require a non-conscious dialog between two people and their respective nervous systems. Without this dialog, which we observe as contingent and reciprocal social behaviors, we drift into isolation, loneliness, denial, and disease. The workshop will focus on four points: 1) the neural mechanisms expressed in autonomic rhythms that promote health and social engagement, 2) the profound effect on health of disrupting the dialog between two nervous systems, 3) the power of reciprocal social engagement and play in repairing the dialog between two nervous systems, and 4) the potential of specific body movements and social engagement behaviors as components of therapeutic models that may foster mental and physical health.
