The Fluid System

Since its inception, Continuum Movement has emphasized the primacy of the fluid system. All of our courses are based upon the monumental implications that we are fundamentally fluid organisms that communicate, innovate, revitalize, and invite new frontiers of existence. All life has been shaped by water. Beginning with the first cell, every form carries the resonance of an undulating origin not bound by time. It is generally accepted that all matter is fundamentally liquid. A thorough experiential background in our fluid origins and its potency will contribute to anyone involved in the somatics field.

We consider the cerebro-spinal fluid to be the primary resonator of all the fluid systems of the body. Origins, Dynamics of Form and Movement and Continuum and the Healing Process, are essential foundational workshops. In each workshop you will experience how our fluid system becomes more active, facilitating our capacity to heal and innovate. You will experience movement at the cellular level, as well as learning its anatomy. You will learn the relevant anatomy of the cerebro-spinal system and how our structure accelerates, or inhibits, this primary flow of communication.

Movement

We live in a world of movement. What we commonly call a body is stabilized movement functioning in a particular environment, in our case... Planet Earth.

Movement is nourishment, insight, information, and communication. Applicants will have in-depth experiences of movement that will revolutionize current modalities and practices.

Applicants will receive a comprehensive foundation in the movement of cells, the movement of the fluid system, the movement of connective tissue, muscles, and nerves, the movement of group process, the movement of our lives, and the movement of our society. All of these movements interpenetrate, shaping our lives, governing our choices.

Breath

Continuum Movement has developed masterful approaches in the art of breath and sound. Healing, growth, all mobility, whether physical, emotional or spiritual is revealed in the dexterity of breath. Fixation, adaptive and compensatory patterns, family history, trauma, emotional stress, are all maintained in the movement or inhibition of
breath. Breath is the essential detoxifier, unstressor and deliverer of life force.

Sound, which is audible breath, penetrates mass and density by creating frequency patterns that will immediately bring an ease of mobility, affecting areas of stagnation and stress. Sound offers exciting possibilities in bringing new flexibility and suppleness to muscle, nerve and connective tissue. Sound provides responsive group rapport,
easily cutting through resistance and other barriers.

Continuum Movement is essential for those with severe trauma, where association with sensation brings about a habitual response that continues to stifle growth and well-being.

Through movement we stimulate new realms of sensation that bring fresh experience to our internalized circumstance, without fear. Breath and sensation can be seen as messengers of liberation, de-coding the internalized imprint, freeing our healing potential. Sensation, a form of perception, heightens our sense of the world and those we touch.

Health

Continuum Movement offers approaches to health and healing that melt away impediments to our growth and well-being. An evolutionary advantage for all species is the ability to adapt. Adaptability increases options, making any given circumstance an opportunity for innovative advantage. Adaptability allows us to maintain youth and vitality. Some of our adaptations form defenses, affecting our connection to others and ourselves. Defenses make us impenetrable, inhibiting our capacity to
receive, making all methods of healing ineffective. We all maintain degrees of defensive adaptations. What limits the richness and possibility of our lives are internalized barriers.

Since 1974, Emilie Conrad has been expanding our concepts of healing and recovery. Clients and practitioners, alike, have gratefully received her contributions and insights particularly in the area of neuro-muscular and connective tissue disease. Currently, the enormous degree of stress related illnesses in our society are requiring greater ingenuity on the part of all somatic practitioners. The Beyond Limits workshop will be introducing one-on-one protocols in order to enhance the continuity, and increase the healing potential, of therapy sessions.

Connective tissue

Our entire body is encompassed by connective tissue, forming a vast body/universe communication network. Connective tissue is liquid crystalline. Crystals have an ability to transmit light frequencies, a major energy source for our bodies. Liquid crystals are known to retain the fundamental motifs of all form, containing both order and disorder within their structure.

Every part of our body, including our blood, is composed of connective tissue. The fluid in connective tissue will often become compromised through trauma, injury, repetitive movement and postural compensations, affecting communication throughout the entire system. All the cells of our body are interconnected through our connective tissue liquid crystalline matrix. It is generally accepted that consciousness, rather than being localized in the brain, is spread through the liquid crystalline continuum of the body.

The dread of aging reveals itself with the loss of fluidity in connective tissue and becomes apparent in the rigidity and stiffness of daily complaints. Almost everyone over forty experiences lower back or joint stiffness. Our skeletal structure is a form of connective tissue. We will provide stimulating education on the nature of bone health
through a greater understanding of the mobility of connective tissue, how it relates to gravity, and the importance of electrical conductivity and decompression.

In our Liquid Crystalline Form workshops, a wide- ranging knowledge of the movement possibilities of connective tissue will be taught, proving invaluable to your practice.

Exercise, Strengthening, Mutability

Exercise should be seen as an exciting art form, encouraging not only strength and tone, but creativity as well. Our breath and sound sequences create an exercise adventure that provides new sources of discovery.

Most exercise is based upon a mechanical view of the body, reinforcing rote repetition as a way of developing strength. Repetitive movement creates density, impeding adaptability, inhibiting change and growth. In general, all exercise programs ignore movement as the essential language of the human body.

A thorough education of the fluid system, cells, connective tissue and skeletal structure leads us to an expanded view of exercise. Mutability of form and fluidity become new ways of seeing exercise and strengthening, expanding our concept of what a "fit" body is. Our Jungle Gym and Frontiers of Movement programs are outcomes of the fluid training of Continuum Movement, creating dynamic interactions that invigorate the integrity of our intrinsic movement of arcs, curves, spirals and undulations, while providing the suppleness and grandeur of a finely tuned animal power.
