Awakening to the Movement of Life
A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
“Movement is something we are, not something we do.”
Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement
All life, including the human body, has been shaped by the movement of water. Continuum Movement is an exploration of the properties and movement of water as it shapes and forms life both within the body and the larger world. At its essence, Continuum is a study of the body as a fluid system constantly shaping itself anew.
In Continuum, the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form; as a coalescence of energy connected to all other living processes through the resonance of fluid systems. As we engage the primary arcing, spiraling and undulating movements of our biology, we become conscious of our dynamic and intimate participation with all of life. Ancient realms of possibility, innovation, and creation are accessed in the practice of Continuum. The body is experienced as a fluid planetary process through which the underlying unity and unfolding mystery of life can inform and guide us. As human bodies, we can become more aware and responsive to the endless possibilities of life emerging, expanding and manifesting as ourselves.
In this workshop, Robin will offer the basic principles and practices of Continuum Movement. She weaves her expertise and knowledge of Continuum Movement together with her lifelong study of the body and physical expression through dance and movement improvisation.
Continuum Movement is appropriate and safe for ALL levels of mobility. No previous movement or dance experience is required.

“Movement is something we ARE, not something we do.”
Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement
All life, including the human body, has been shaped by water. Continuum Movement is an exploration of the properties and movement of water as it shapes and forms life both within the body and the larger world.
Often, in western culture, the body is understood as a stable form with clear boundaries. In Continuum Movement, the human body is understood as an unfolding planetary process of fluid movement rather than form. Because the body is fluid and primarily liquid crystalline, all communication within the body happens through the arcing, spiraling, and oscillating movements of our biology. Streaming bio-movements create a radiant communication network throughout the body that reaches far beyond the apparent boundary of the body. A principle of all fluid systems is that they function in resonance, or immediate communication, with all other fluid systems. How we listen and offer attention to the fluid sensory language of our bodies influences the way in which we perceive ourselves and all life events.
In this workshop we will be working with the practices of Continuum Movement. Through breath and sounding practices, personal movement explorations are initiated. Continuum offers a practice of intentionally deconstructing form and habitual patterns in the body so that new information, nourishment and possibility may enter the body. In the same way that an artist meets the unknown and learns to trust an intuitive sense about the whisper of a new form, we begin to tangibly sense how our body shapes, contributes, and participates in the desires, movements, and thoughts we express.
Continuum Movement provides the opportunity to expand our experience and understanding of the body as a resource for change; a pulsing dynamic organism, instead of a fixed entity. Many people experience profound restoration and renewal through the practice of Continuum, and express the delight of finding a way to offer self-care and a type of bodywork to themselves. An increased awareness of nuance and sensation develops that allows for more permeability, presence, and receptivity in working, moving and communicating with others.
This movement practice is appropriate and safe for everyone at ALL mobility levels. Continuum Movement informs and benefits all other movement practices whether one is a student of cranial sacral work, shiatsu, massage, yoga, dance, general fitness, nature or life.

The Body: Our Living Resource
A Continuum Movement Workshop
taught by Robin Becker
“We do not live on the earth, we are the earth.” Sister Miriam MacGillis
From the formation of galaxies to the pulsing cells of the human body, all life forms share the fundamental movement motif of spiraling fluid systems. Made primarily of water, our bodies are liquid crystalline structures designed to receive, carry and transmit vibration. In Continuum Movement, the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form. Continuum provides a context in which we can expand our experience of embodiment while exploring the nature of the body as an evolving planetary process intimately connected to all life.
In this time of advanced technology and extraordinary electronic global communications, it is very easy to overlook the living intelligence of the body. When we offer attention to the fluid inner landscape of the body, we begin to experience through sensation that our bodies are in constant rapport and interaction with all other fluid bodies in the universe far beyond what we commonly consider to be the physical boundary of the body. We begin to sense how our body is dynamically engaged with all life and how the continual shaping and reshaping of life processes within us contribute to the manifestation of the desires, movements, and thoughts we express. We begin to experience ourselves as a creative process of continuous unfolding.
We cultivate a deep and nourishing sense of belonging to life as we recognize the dimensions and infinite expressions of creation emerging and evolving as our embodied beings every moment of our lives.
In this workshop, Robin weaves her expertise and knowledge of Continuum Movement together with her lifelong study of the body and physical expression through dance and movement improvisation.
The workshop begins with an evening introduction to Continuum that is required if one is new to Continuum and optional if one has had experience with Continuum. The workshop will culminate in an ‘all-nighter,’ a time of silence, during which we move and rest in the deep listening and resonance of the group.
This movement practice is appropriate and safe for everyone at ALL mobility levels. No previous movement or dance experience is required.

Moving in Resonance with All Life

All life forms including our bodies have been shaped by the movement of water. Continuum Movement is an exploration of the properties and movement of water as it shapes and forms life both within the body and the larger world. The body is understood as an unfolding planetary process of fluid movement rather than form.
A principle of all fluid systems is that they function in resonance, or immediate communication, with all other fluid systems. Because the body is fluid and primarily liquid crystalline, all communication within the body happens through the arcing, spiraling, and oscillating movements of our biology. Similar to the way overlapping and interpenetrating waves move on the surface of water, all communication within the body takes place through the movement and changing dynamic forms of the fluid systems within us. Streaming bio-movements create a radiant communication network throughout the body that reaches far beyond the apparent boundary of the body. As we develop in the practice of Continuum, a beautiful sense of belonging to life begins to emerge as we experience how profoundly interconnected we are with all life.
Continuum offers a practice of intentionally deconstructing form and habitual patterns in the body so that new information, nourishment and possibility may enter the body. It provides the opportunity to expand our experience and understanding of the body as a resource for change; a pulsing dynamic organism, instead of a fixed entity. Throughout the week there will be time for reflection and silence. We will be moving together both individually and in groups. The workshop will begin with an introduction to Continuum and culminate in an ‘allnighter,’ a time of silence, during which we move and rest in the deep listening and resonance of the group.

A Lineage of Love
Retreat in the Body
Taught by Robin Becker
“We do not live on the earth, we are the earth.” Sister Miriam MacGillis
From the formation of galaxies to the pulsing cells of the human body, all life forms share the fundamental movement motif of spiraling fluid systems. Made primarily of water, our bodies are liquid crystalline structures designed to receive, carry and transmit vibration. In the Sufi tradition, the divine is understood to be love, the lover, and the beloved. All of creation is considered to be a manifestation of the divine. We can also consider our bodies, the capacities through which we experience life, to be manifestations of divine love and the living carrier of an ancient planetary lineage.
Many of us share the longing to deeply embody love and manifest our ideals. In this time of advanced technology and extraordinary electronic global communications, it is very easy to overlook the pulsing vibrant intelligence of the body, and how life is revealed moment by moment through the direct sensory experience of our embodiment.
In this retreat, we will work with the practices and perspectives of Continuum Movement, in which the body is understood as a boundless process of fluid movement rather than form. When we offer attention to the fluid landscape of our bodies, we begin to experience that our bodies are in a constant rapport and resonant exchange with all other fluid bodies in the universe far beyond what we commonly consider to be the physical boundary of our bodies. Dancing within our form is a mysterious mix of the tangible and the intangible. All the physical and non-physical dimensions of our being are known to us through the sensitive capabilities and awareness of our bodies. We cultivate a deep and enriching sense of belonging to life as we recognize our essential participation in the life of the planet that is emerging, expanding and unfolding as ourselves.
In our week together, there will be time for reflection and silence. We will be moving both individually and in groups. We will also spend time in Nature exploring our connection to the infinite forms of life that embrace, inform and nourish us.
